The Melbourne International Comedy Fetsival Roadshow is coming to Caloundra again in 2012 on Thursday 3rd May at The Events Centre, 20 Minchinton Street, Caloundra. This 18+ event starts at 8pm running for approximately 2.5 hrs, with the bar opening at 6pm, tickets start at $38 for groups or concession, to $42 per person. Food platters are available to pre-order. The superb night of comedy includes Australian and International acts Harley Breen as MC, Jeff Green, Kate Mclennan, Joel Creasey & Tim Fitzhigham.

How far is the Australia Zoo to Kings Beach Caloundra

The Australia Zoo is located on Steve Irwin Way in Beerwah and is approximately 24km from Kings Beach, Caloundra, being roughly a 20 minute drive. With free parking at the zoo driving by car is the most convenient way to get there, although the Australia Zoo does have a bus that runs from Caloundra at 8.45am and departs the Australia Zoo at 4pm, returning to Caloundra, the cost for this is $5 per person, return, bookings must be made for this service on 07 5436 2000. The Australia Zoo is often increasing its wildlife attractions with the new exhibit being the open-range Africa with animals including the Giraffe, Zebra, Rhinoceros and Cheetah. Australia Zoo set over a large area including the Crocoseum has a wide range of animals to experience including reptiles, mammals and birds. Tickets start from free admission for children under 3yrs old, $35 per child & $59 per adult with family passes and annual passes also available at discounted prices. It is open 364 days of the year (closed for Christmas Day) with gates opening at 9am and closing at 5pm.

Accommodation for when visiting the Australia Zoo

Shearwater Resort, located at Kings Beach, Caloundra is an ideal accommodation spot when visiting the Australia Zoo, you can pre-purchase tickets at reception (at no extra charge) so you don’t have to queue on the day when arriving at the zoo and after your busy day at the zoo you can then relax by the beach. If catching the Australia Zoo bus it is only a 15 minute picturesque walk along the board-walk to the bus station in Caloundra.

Caloundra Fringe Festival 2012

This year the Caloundra Fringe Festival is a new addition in the lead up to the Caloundra Music Fesitval, designed to offer a wide range of entertainment and activities during the September School Holidays and showcasing local talent. From the 21st of September to the 1st of October 2012 there will be music, arts, food & family activities held in Caloundra.

Find out what is the best beach in Caloundra, arguably Kings Beach would be the most popular, being picturesque, fairly sheltered, patrolled and with many facilities. There is the Surf Club on the waterfront and a large public and free swimming pool on the waters edge with places to sunbathe and relax under umbrellas. There are also toilets and changing facilities there. With the Caloundra Surf Lifesaving Club located at Kings Beach it is patrolled year round and generally safe when swimming between the flags, the beach is patrolled from 7:30am to 5pm. The surf varies depending on the weather, and with its beach break is popular with surfers and boogie borders. On the foreshore is parkland with a water park feature, very popular with children. The park includes a few different playgrounds, bbq facilities with picnic tables scattered around the park, there is also an aphitheatre where concerts and community events are held. Also along the foreshore is a walkway which will take you around to Bulcock Beach and the Pumicestone Passage, walking the other direction the walkway will take you around the headland to Moffat Beach. The view from Kings Beach is spectacular, you can look directly out to Moreton Island and South to Bribie Island but the main interesting point is the Shipping Channel, you can sit on the beach and watch huge cargo ships and cruise ships pass by as they make their way up and down the coast. There are many eating and accommodation options at Kings Beach making it a great place to have a beach holiday.

Is Kings Beach Patrolled

As home to the Caloundra Surf Lifesaving Club, Kings Beach is patrolled year round from 7:30am – 5pm, daily during the Summer and School holidays, and patrolled in the weekends throughout Winter. Swimming between the flags at Kings Beach is relatively safe and very popular for beach going families, it’s also a fairly sheltered beach as it is South East facing. There are a couple of shaded areas on the beach, created by overhanging shelters from the walkways, and of course plenty of sun on the white sandy beach. There are cafe’s & restaurants for when you need a break from the sun and surf plus parkland with BBQ’s and picnic tables. There is plenty of space to kick a ball around in the parkland, children’s playgrounds and a water park feature, very popular with young children. You can also do some snorkelling on a calm day, and explore rock pools at low tide or kickback around the free public salt water pool. There is a walkway along the foreshore with plenty of vantage points to enjoy the ocean views and watch ships pass by along the shipping channel. Kings beach is a very popular beach in Caloundra, no doubt attributed to the great work the surf lifesaving club do to keep the beach safe.

International Rally of Queensland 2012

The International Rally of Queensland is being held on the 25th – 27th of May 2012 beginning in Caloundra on the Friday night and ending in Imbil on the Sunday, it is the 3rd round in the Australian Rally Championship & the 3rd round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship. It begins on the Friday night at Kings Beach, Caloundra with a 5:30pm drivers autograph session, 6:30pm opening ceremony and 7:30pm first car over the ramp at the ceremonial start. A 2km super special stage is being held at the Caloundra Airport on Saturday night, then on Sunday competitive stages are held in the Imbil Forest with over 230km of difficult gravel roads for drivers to navigate with a podium finish on Sunday afternoon to be held adjacent to the Imbil Railway Station.

Kings of the Coast Caloundra 2012

Part of the Queensland Ocean Swim Series, Kings of the Coast is being held over 2 days on Sat 28th & Sun 29th of April 2012 at Kings Beach, Caloundra. The weekends swimming events hold a great challenge for experienced and not so experienced swimmers.

Kings of the Coast Events

The weekend begins at 2:30pm on Saturday with the 1500m Relay Challenge, this should be an exciting event for spectators on Kings Beach consisting of three laps of a 500m swim & a short 50-100m beach sprint. There is the option of competing individually, with a 2 person team or a 3 person team.

At 3:15pm on Saturday afternoon on Kings Beach The Hot 91.1 300m Kids Surf Dash is being held. For kids older than 10 years, this is a fun 300m swim with a beach sprint at the end, family and friends are encouraged to swim alongside in this free event.

At 4pm presentations are held at Lions Park.

Sunday has a 9:30am start of the main event of the weekend the 3.8km Speedo Ironman Challenge beginning at Moffat Beach and heading south around the headland to finish at Kings Beach with the option of an individual entry or a 2 person team entry being 1.6km and 2.2km swims. There is a walkway along the whole distance of the swim which allows spectators and support crew to follow the race progress.

The weekend’s last event is the Sunshine Coast Daily Caloundra 1000 Short Course which begins at 10:30am on Sunday. This is a 1km course held at Kings Beach and is a great chance for less experienced ocean swimmers to gain open water experience.

The weekend ends with presentations held at 11:30am at Kings Beach Tavern.

Dear Wally and Linda,
We just wanted to say thank you for giving us such a wonderful wedding day. From the moment we stepped in the door of the Shearwater Resort several months earlier, we had nothing but superior and excellent service. Linda made us immediately welcome and provided us with all the information a Bride and Groom could need to make their decisions easier regarding seating arrangements, table and room decorating, food and bar service, music, and other wedding reception needs in the Vue Room. On many occasions we took family or friends to the room to get their reaction and every single one of them were over awed with the facilities available, and not once were we made to feel as though we were being an inconvenience. The Vue room was always set up for the Bride and Groom to get an idea of what to expect on their special day. From there, we did not hesitate to make a booking and from that point forward we did not have to worry about another thing.

Caloundra Accommodation

Thank you to Wally also for organising all of our accommodation needs as a lot of our families and friends stayed at the resort and were offered great rates despite the busy time of the year. Everyone enjoyed all the conveniences that the Resort has to offer from the swimming pool, to the sauna, the restaurants, the locality to the beach and water park across the road. All rooms had spectacular ocean views and all the luxuries of home (and a little bit more). Again, despite the many room changes and last minute accommodation needs, we were never made to feel as though we were being a burden and were always welcomed with a smile and great service.

Caloundra Wedding Venue

On the day of the wedding, I wouldn’t have been anywhere near as relaxed as I was without everything being taken care of by Ed and all the staff at the Shearwater resort. All I had to do was get up and have a relaxing spa bath, get my hair and makeup done, get dressed, and get to the church on time. I was able to do this knowing that all of our guests were comfortable and happy; the Vue Room had been decorated beautifully by Princess Events and Weddings, who work closely with the resort to organise weddings, the tables had been set by the staff of the restaurant, the food was organised, and the bar had been stocked. That night, everyone commented on the quality of food and no-one went home hungry, and certainly no-one complained about not having enough to drink. The service by the Simon and the wait staff was impeccable and they took the stress out of the night by taking care of all the little things that can add worry to the newlyweds.
There are so many other qualities and small services that I have probably failed to mention only due to the space I have to write them all down. In a nutshell, Jason and I just want to express our complete gratitude and appreciation for everything you did for us over the months leading up to the wedding, plus all the magic touches that made the weekend we stayed there amazing. We still get a warm glow of our experience every time we drive past the Shearwater and smile at the memories and experience of the day. We will never hesitate in recommending the resort to anyone looking for somewhere to hold their wedding reception.

Kings of the Coast Ocean Swim is on Sunday the 29^th May. Whether you are competing or a spectator this is the ultimate swimming challenge and a major event on the ocean swimming calendar. Starting at Moffat Beach and ending at Kings beach.

This event attracts competitors from across the Sunshine Coast, Interstate and some International entrants.
